Top 10 Best Selling Cars in America: Midyear 2022 Sales

The auto industry has faced ongoing challenges in 2022, yet demand for the most popular models remains strong. Based on sales data through July 2022, these are currently the 10 top-selling vehicles in the United States:

  1. Ford F-Series – 451,429 units, up 24.5%

The perennial best-selling pickup truck in America continues its dominance in 2022. Ford has sold over 450,000 F-Series trucks so far this year, up a robust 25% compared to 2021. Strong profitability and low inventories are giving the F-Series an advantage.

  1. Chevrolet Silverado – 306,237 units, up 2.9%

Chevy’s leading pickup truck narrowly trails the F-Series, with sales up a modest 3% this year. Inventories remain tight, limiting full sales potential but keeping transaction prices high.

  1. Toyota RAV4 – 225,146 units, down 5.7%

Toyota’s top-selling crossover SUV ranked third, although year-over-year sales were down 6% amid tight inventories. The RAV4 continues to be a go-to choice for compact SUV shoppers.

  1. Tesla Model Y – 238,686 units, up 64.1%

Tesla’s newest model skyrocketed up the rankings on impressive 64% growth this year. The more affordable and family-friendly Model Y continues disrupting the luxury crossover segment.

  1. Honda CR-V – 196,794 units, up 42.2%

Like the RAV4, the CR-V compact crossover saw sales dip in 2021 from shortages. But supplies are improving in 2022, leading to a 42% rebound.

  1. Ram Pickup – 254,653 units, down 11.4%

The Ram Pickup succumbed to tighter inventories this year, with sales down 11% despite red-hot demand. More production capacity would have Ram challenging Silverado and F-Series.

  1. Toyota Camry – 175,955 units, up 9.4%

Camry sales have stabilized in 2022 after dropping significantly in 2021. Consumers continue gravitating to crossovers, but the Camry remains a strong midsize sedan option.

  1. GMC Sierra – 166,553 units, up 24.8%

GMC is capitalizing on robust pickup demand, with Sierra sales up almost 25% this year. It leads GMC’s lineup while benefitting from tight inventories.

  1. Nissan Rogue – 170,209 units, up 70.3%

An all-new redesign gives the Rogue the sales momentum to make the top 10 with a 70% jump this year. Nissan made Rogue inventory a priority to capture crossover shoppers.

  1. Toyota Corolla – 108,260 units, down 12%

The Corolla compact sedan sees declining interest as crossovers grow in popularity. But Toyota’s reputation for reliability keeps the Corolla among the top names in the market.

The auto market evolves quickly, but America’s best-selling vehicles show amazing staying power despite economic challenges and inventory issues. Pickups and Toyota SUVs remain dominant in 2022.
